Whether you are new to the area, a new parent or a child care provider, WFRC is your one-stop source for information about quality child care in Forsyth and surrounding counties.

Work Family Resource Center (WFRC) is a private, 501(c) 3 non-profit child care resource and referral agency committed to providing consumer education, child care referrals and resources to support quality child care. The work of WFRC focuses on coordinating child care services with child care needs and providing public awareness about the importance of quality child care.

We believe quality child care experiences set the groundwork for future learning. Our qualified staff connects parents, businesses, and the community at-large with trained child care professionals and services. Home of the largest database of child care programs in the region, WFRC offers a combination of free and fee-based services to suit the needs of all families.

WFRC provides services in English and Spanish for parents, early childhood professionals, employers and the community in general, utilizing funding from government and private sources.

Our history

In 1991, a joint effort between the Junior League of Winston Salem, Northwest Child Development Council, The Winston Salem Foundation and United Way of Forsyth County provided research and funding to support the development of Work Family Resource Center as a vehicle to provide child care resource and referral services to the community. The mission of the agency is to provide consumer education, referrals and resources to promote the quality of child care in Forsyth County.

Our services

The mission of WFRC is fostered through the following services:

• Working with parents to locate quality child care programs
• Helping income eligible parents access financial assistance to pay for child care
• Providing ongoing professional development opportunities and support to improve the quality of child care programs
• Maintaining a database of legally operating child care options
• Collecting and distributing information on the supply of and demand for child care
• Providing on-site training and enhanced services to individuals and businesses

Our funding

WFRC receives funding from a variety of sources. The majority of the agency’s funding comes from the Child Care and Development Block Grant through the NC Division of Child Development. WFRC also receives additional support from Smart Start of Forsyth County, private contributions, foundation grants and fee based services to individuals and businesses in our community.

What is CCR&R?

Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agencies deliver coordinated direct services that facilitate access to early care and education/school-age options to families, improve the quality of those options through a variety of services to providers, employers and communities and provide objective information for planning and policy development to the public and private sectors.

CCR&R services are available in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties.  Counties are grouped into 18 regions and each region’s CCR&R services are overseen by a Regional CCR&R Lead Agency.  There are a total of 70 CCR&R agencies serving North Carolina’s diverse families, child care programs, professional workforce and communities.  These agencies all provide the “core” CCR&R services of consumer education and referral, professional development, technical assistance, data collection and analysis and public awareness.  Many also administer child care subsidies, the Child Care and Adult Food Program and employer-supported initiatives.

There are over 500 CCR&R agencies providing similar services across the Unites States and territories.

Region 13

WFRC serves as the lead agency for Region 13; a cluster of child care resource and referral agencies that provide services to families and child care programs in seven counties, Alleghany, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin.     By working together these organizations have been able to increase the quality of child care options across the region.  Additionally, WFRC manages three special initiatives focused on expanding and enhancing the quality of child care: Infant/Toddler Quality Enhancement, School-Age Quality Improvement and Promoting Healthy Social Behaviors for Children in Child Care Centers.
